Original vs anonymized — and the instant-redact preview
The editor gives you three lenses on the same document. They live in the status bar at the bottom and you’ll flick between them constantly while reviewing.
Anonymized vs Original
Section titled “Anonymized vs Original”The right-hand switch flips the viewer between:
- Anonymized — the regenerated safe copy, with replacements actually applied. This is what your recipient will see, and it’s what the editor shows on open.
- Original — the untouched source document.
Flicking between them is the fastest way to eyeball exactly what changed. Put the same paragraph in view, flip the switch, and watch which words move.
If you’ve made edits the view hasn’t caught up with yet, turning the switch back to Anonymized regenerates first, so you never compare against a stale copy.
Instant redact: a black-bar preview
Section titled “Instant redact: a black-bar preview”The Instant redact switch drops solid bars over every detected value, drawn live over the original document with CSS. It’s a preview, not a saved change — flip it on, glance, flip it off. Nothing is written.
This answers a specific question fast: “if I redacted everything in the list right now, would anything sensitive still be showing?” Because it highlights every active entry at once, a real value the model missed stands out as the one thing not covered by a bar.
Turning instant-redact on while you’re viewing the anonymized output flips you to the original automatically — the preview only makes sense over the source text.
How they combine
Section titled “How they combine”| You want to… | Use |
|---|---|
| See the deliverable as the recipient will | Anonymized view |
| Compare before and after, word by word | Flip Anonymized ⇄ Original |
| Spot anything the model missed | Instant redact on the original |
| Draw or highlight a new redaction | Switch to Original (the tool does this for you) |
The drawing and highlighter tools only work on the original, so turning them on switches the view for you and drops the instant-redact overlay so it doesn’t fight the crosshair.
A reviewer’s habit worth keeping
Section titled “A reviewer’s habit worth keeping”Open the editor, leave it on Anonymized, and read the document end to end as if you received it. Then turn on Instant redact over the original and scan once more for anything uncovered. Two passes, two lenses — most slips show up in one or the other.
