Editor tips & FAQ
Does editing re-run the model?
Section titled “Does editing re-run the model?”No. The editor works on the result of a run that already happened. Every change — toggles, edits, new entries, drawn boxes — is applied locally and instantly. The model isn’t consulted again, so nothing leaves your machine and there’s no waiting. (The one exception: clicking Generate for a synthetic value runs the local Faker generator, not the detection model.)
I turned an entry off but it still looks redacted.
Section titled “I turned an entry off but it still looks redacted.”You’re probably looking at a stale view. With Auto off, the anonymized view doesn’t refresh until you hit Refresh. Turn Auto on, or click Refresh, and the view will catch up.
What’s the difference between turning an entry off and removing it?
Section titled “What’s the difference between turning an entry off and removing it?”Both leave the original value in the document. Off keeps the entry in the list (and saves it into a template as a “keep this” rule); remove deletes it. Full comparison in anatomy of an entry.
Can I change just one value’s method without changing the whole document?
Section titled “Can I change just one value’s method without changing the whole document?”Yes. The method pills set the document-wide approach, but editing a single entry lets you synthesize, redact, or label that one entry independently. A mostly-synthetic document can have one value blacked out.
I switched method and lost my edits.
Section titled “I switched method and lost my edits.”You used Rebuild, not Apply. Switching pills and Apply both keep your hand edits; Rebuild deliberately discards every customization and asks you to confirm first. If it just happened, undo brings them back.
The Word preview doesn’t look like my real document.
Section titled “The Word preview doesn’t look like my real document.”That’s expected. Word files render as a reflowed reading view for reviewing content. The saved .docx keeps its original layout, fonts, and tables.
Can I redact a photo or a signature?
Section titled “Can I redact a photo or a signature?”Yes. If Piixie recognized the image, flip its blur switch. If it’s a region with no recognized image — a stamp, a handwritten signature — draw a box over it.
Will I lose my work if I close the window?
Section titled “Will I lose my work if I close the window?”No. Closing with unsaved changes prompts Save & close / Discard / Cancel. Nothing is thrown away silently. See saving to output.
My edits aren’t in the output file.
Section titled “My edits aren’t in the output file.”The editor stashes versions; your real file only changes when you click Save to output. If the output looks unedited, you didn’t promote a version yet.
Can I reuse this exact editing on another document?
Section titled “Can I reuse this exact editing on another document?”Yes — save it as a template. Disabled entries become “keep” rules and the rest become per-type rules, so the same treatment applies to a different-but-similar document.
Can I undo a template I applied?
Section titled “Can I undo a template I applied?”Yes. Applying a template is on the undo stack like any other edit — ⌘Z reverts it.
